Internal Family Systems Therapy
What is Internal Family Systems Therapy?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy is an innovative and evidence-based therapeutic approach that views the mind as made up of distinct “parts,” each with their own unique perspectives and roles. For example, you might have a part that urges you to seize opportunities (“Go for it!”) while another part holds you back due to fear (“No way!”).
Developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz, IFS operates under the principle of “no bad parts,” meaning that every part of us has a valuable role and positive intention, even if it may seem counterproductive or problematic at times. This compassionate framework helps clients understand and integrate these various aspects of themselves, facilitating healing, balance, and a greater sense of wholeness.
